Despite Rome Loss, Rafael Nadal Still Slight Betting Favorite at Roland Garros

Eight-time Roland Garros champion Rafael Nadal is the betting favorite to win a ninth title on the terre battue this year, according to on-line betting broker Ladbrokes.

Roland Garros Qualifying Previews: Men | Women

Nadal, who has lost three matches on clay prior to the French Open for the first time since 2003, comes in as the 5/4 favorite, while his biggest rival Novak Djokovic comes in at 11/8. In other words, a $100 bet on Nadal would return $225 ($125 profit), while a $100 bet on Djokovic would return $237.50 ($137.50 profit).

Ladbrokes list Stan Wawrinka as the No. 3 favorite, with 13/2 odds.

Coming in at fourth are Roger Federer, Andy Murray, Kei Nishikori and David Ferrer, all at 20/1.

Nadal, who owns a career record of 59-1 at Roland Garros, has won his last 28 matches in Paris, and only six times in those 28 wins has the Spaniard dropped a set. Djokovic took a set from Nadal in their 2012 final, as well as taking two from the Spaniard last year during their epic semifinal in 2013.
