Coming Soon: Li Na The Movie

Celebrated Chinese tennis star and pioneer Li Na will see her life story on the big screen in a planned new movie.

Per the Wall Street Journal, "Li Na: My Life", based on her recent autobiography, will be a dramatic film chronicling the two-time Grand Slam champion's life and career as a tennis trailblazer for her country.

Noted Hong Kong director Peter Chan will produce and direct the film. In an interview, Li is very happy that Chan is helming the production.

"I feel like my story is in good hands with him. I am so fortunate to have these opportunities, and not for one minute do I take them for granted," Li said.

Casting is underway to find an actress that can not only do a convincing job as a professional tennis player but also convey Li's trademark personality that made her a fan favorite across the globe.

Li won the French Open in 2011 and the Australian Open in 2014. Since retiring from tennis last year due to injury, Li has kept busy both in business and in her personal life. Li is expecting her first child with husband Jiang Shan.

During her tennis career, Li was known for making jokes about her husband also known as Dennis. Yet, she is very happy to have him as her partner.

“Dennis is always good,” Li said. “He is a very lucky man that he found me, right? No, I am kidding. He is the best partner I could ever have, and I can’t wait for him to become a father.”

In addition to the movie, Li is also working on building a tennis academy in China. Her agent, Max Eisenbud, described the still to be built academy as a "Li Na land" complete with a hotel, spa, and restaurants.

Production on the film is expected to start later this year with a planned release date of 2016. Li hopes the film and her life story will inspire other young tennis players to follow their dreams.

“I really hope that I am not the most successful tennis player from China because I hope that there will be someone else that does better than me and breaks all my records. That would make me happy, to see someone learn from my experience and become a better tennis player."
