Novak Djokovic could meet up with one of the ATP Tour’s fastest rising clay-courters in the quarterfinals of next week’s Internazionali BNL D’Italia in Rome.

The world No. 1, who skipped this week’s Madrid Masters has been present and practicing at the event that he is defending and three-time champion at.


The Serb will open his tournament against either Nicolas Almagro or Luca Vanni after a first-round bye. He is slated to face either Roberto Bautista Agut or Marcel Granollers in the third round.

Andy Murray, David Ferrer and Nick Kyrgios are also in Djokovic’ half.

Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer are in the bottom half of the draw, and could meet in the semifinals. Second-seeded Federer could face either Paolo Lorenzi or Pablo Cuevas in the second round after a bye, while Nadal will face either Adrian Mannarino or a qualifier after his bye.

Nadal could face American John Isner in the third round and would face Stan Wawrinka in the quarterfinals if the seeds hold.

Federer would face Tomas Berdych in the quarterfinals of the seeds hold.

Nadal is a seven-time champion at Rome, while Federer is still missing the Rome trophy in his case.
