All is fair in love and war. You win some, you lose some. To the victor goes the spoils. They’ve always said about champagne that in success you deserve it and in defeat you need it. Well, Novak Djokovic should have two extra large flutes of champagne on Sunday because he put forth a scintillating effort to win the Internazionali BNL D’Italia over Roger Federer in Rome, and moments later he managed to nearly shoot his eye out with this rogue champagne cork.


Yes, this really happened. And it drew blood. Djokovic needed to stop partying for a bit to towel off. While he was doing that, as you might have guessed, the internet was doing its thing. Sample a few digital helpings below:


On a more serious note, Djokovic says he’s alright, and is thankful he didn’t have to hold his racquet with his nose:

The women’s final also proved to be dangerous on Sunday, as this ballkid toppled while walking behind Maria Sharapova during a changeover. Casanova this kid is not:

Sharapova also had some fun with champagne, but hers was a bit less bloody. This photo, we think, has to be in consideration for tennis photo of the year.
