France Chooses Clay For Davis Cup Semifinal

The road to the Davis Cup final will be a red clay track in France.

France will host Serbia at Lille's Stade Pierre-Mauroy in their Davis Cup semifinal in September.

More: Federer Will Not Play Roland Garros

The tie will be staged on a portable red clay court constructed at one end of the stadium, which is the home ground of football club LOSC Lille Metropole.

The stadium is the only one in France to have a retractable roof, but the intention is for the tie to be played outdoors—unlike the one other Davis Cup tie held at the venue, the 2014 Davis Cup final.

Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka led Switzerland to its first Davis Cup championship with a win over France in that 2014 final.
