Francesca Schiavone has suddenly come to life on the red clay. The 36-year-old in her final year of professional tennis, won the Bogota title this month, defeating four of the event’s seeds en route to the title. This week in Rabat she defeated No.4-seeded Kiki Bertens in the first round and has progressed on into the semis.

Today she defeated Tatjana Maria, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3, and did a bit of hot-dogging to boot (see video above).

Schiavone has not won eight matches in succession since the autumn of 2009.

The Italian will face American Varvara Lepchenko in the semifinals. The other semifinal will feature top-seeded Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Sara Errani.
