Maria Sharapova may get more press for her entrepreneurial endeavors, her glamour and her Grand Slam titles (not necessarily in that order), but the 27-year-old Russian still makes plenty of time to brighten the lives of the less fortunate.

A few days ago, Sharapova made a surprise appearance at the IMG academy to pay a visit to 10-year-old cancer survivor Sunny Logan, a tennis player who started playing when she was five years old and gained a state ranking as a 10-year-old.

Sunny was diagnosed with a rare cancer of the lymph nodes this year, and the younster has used tennis as a source of strength to spearhead her recovery since then. She was officially declared cancer-free recently, and to celebrate, the Today Show brought her to the IMG Academy to experience tennis at the training ground for many of the game’s legends.

During her on-court session, Sharapova appeared to congratulate Sunny on her hard work and have a special hit with her (see video above).

“I was just speechless,” Sunny would tell the national TV audience afterwards. “I did not know what to do.”

Thankfully, Sharapova, knew precisely what to do when it came to paying a visit to Sunny. She stepped up and gave the kid a memory she’ll never forget.
