Gael Monfils has announced his withdrawal from his final match at this year’s World Tour Finals. The Frenchman has suffered a rib injury and will be replaced by alternate David Goffin on Thursday in London.

“Unfortunately I have been forced to put an end to my season as I will not be able to defend my chances against Novak tomorrow in London,” Monfils wrote in a Facebook statement to fans. “I have not fully recovered from my rib injury. I am extremely disappointed about the situation however I will not forget the success we have had this year with my team. We implemented a lot of changes which helped me to have my best season so far and to qualify for the ATP World Tour Finals in London for the first time.”

Goffin, 25, will make his ATP Finals debut against Djokovic. The Serbian has already qualified for the semifinals, while Goffin has no chance to play another match, but can pick up 200 ranking points with a win.

Milos Raonic and Dominic Thiem will meet for the other semifinal spot on Thursday, with the loser being eliminated.
