U.S. Fed Cup Team to host Latvia in Washington

The United States will launch its quest for a record-extending 19th Fed Cup championship with a first in February.

The U.S. Fed Cup team will host Latvia in a 2020 Fed Cup qualifier inside the Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett, Washington.

Thiem: This is Why Tsitsipas is Great for the Game

The February 7-8th tie marks the first time Washington state will host a Fed Cup tie.

On Friday, February 7th the nations will face off in two opening singles matches with two reverse singles matches and a decisive doubles match, if necessary, set for Saturday, February 8th.

The tie will be staged on a temporary hard court in the Angel of the Winds Arena.

The eight winning nations in the 16-team qualifier advance to the 2020 Fed Cup Finals in Budapest staged from April 14-19th.

Those eight nations will join the 2019 Fed Cup champion France, finalist Australia as well as host nation Hungary and wild card Czech Republic in the new World Cup-style Fed Cup Finals.

"As a native Washingtonian, I'm thrilled to see Fed Cup come to Washington for the first time," said USTA Chairman of the Board and President Patrick Galbraith, a Tacoma native. "Washington has such a vibrant tennis community, and this competition gives us a chance to bring world-class tennis to Everett, engage with the community and use this platform to truly celebrate and grow tennis in the area."

The United States captured its 18th Fed Cup championship in 2017 when Coco Vandeweghe led the USA to a 3-2 triumph over host Belarus. A U.S. squad led by Sofia Kenin and Alison Riske fell to host Czech Republic in the 2018 final in Prague.
