Serena Williams says her hamstring is much better and she hopes to be at the Australian Open in 2022.

Kimmel asked Williams if she’d be ready for the Australian Open in January.

“Yeah,” Williams said, enthusiastically. “I’m definitely” – then she was cut off by crowd applause and the subject was changed. The answer was a hopeful one, however short.

The 23-time major champion stopped by the Jimmy Kimmel Show to promote the new movie “King Richard” which stars Will Smith playing Richard Williams, Serena and Venus’ father.

“Will Smith does a fantastic job playing my dad,” Williams said. “It’s really genius. “We and Will wanted to make a movie that really honored my dad, what he did, not only in tennis, but the impact that he had literally on the globe. When I first saw it I was honestly bawling the whole time.”

Williams was in good spirits, and says her hamstring is fully recovered.

“It’s much better,” Williams said of the injury that took her out of Wimbledon in the first round this year. “It took a long time. It took forever but it’s much better now.”

Most of all Williams was thrilled to tell the public about the movie and how impressed she was with how it came out.

“The job that he does portraying my dad – he did such an amazing job of really learning the character,” Williams raved.

Here is the official trailer for "King Richard."
