After skipping Valencia with an elbow injury, David Ferrer is back in action at the Paris Masters, and he was in bright, shiny form during his 6-2, 6-2 victory over Alexandr Dolgopolov on Tuesday.

It’s not often that you see the ferocious, fit and focused Ferrer smiling on a tennis court. He’s usually too busy running his opponents ragged, but after this dazzling point vs. the Ukrainian, Ferrer couldn’t help but crack a smile.

Despite bearing the brunt of Ferrer’s wizardry, Dolgopolov was smiling, too.

Ferrer moves on to face either Marin Cilic or Grigor Dimitrov in the round of 16 at Paris.

Other winners on a busy Tuesday in Paris were 4th-seeded Stan Wawrinka, who continued his good fortunes in Paris by blasting past Bernard Tomic, 6-3, 7-6(6) and Borna Coric, who defeated Fernando Verdasco, 6-4, 6-4. The 18-year-old Coric has now won 26 matches in 2015.

Other winners were Edouard Roger-Vasselin (d. Karlovic), Jeremy Chardy (d. Pouille), Roberto Bautista Agut (d. Herbert), Viktor Troicki (d. Sock).

Lukas Rosol also advanced, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3, over Guillermo Garcia-Lopez to set up a second-round encounter with Rafael Nadal.
