Surprise! An ATP Statistic that Novak Djokovic Isn’t Dominating

In 2015, Novak Djokovic is enjoying his second winning streak of 20-plus matches, has won a record six Masters 1000 titles to go with his three major titles, and he’s broken the ATP’s single-season prize money record, too. There isn’t too much that the World No. 1 isn’t doing right now, but while preparing for Day 2 of the World Tour Finals we came across one stat that the mighty Serb isn’t No. 1 at.

Andy Murray and David Ferrer will both enter Monday’s round robin without a single blemish on their record after winning the first set this year.

Murray is 59-0 and Ferrer is 43-0, and they’ll meet in the first singles match at the O2 Arena on Monday:

We instantly became curious to know how the rest of the elite eight perform in this category. Turns out that Djokovic has lost twice this year after winning the first set (Karlovic, Doha and Wawrinka, Roland Garros) while Roger Federer has lost only once (Kyrgios, Madrid).

Rafael Nadal (52-5) has lost more matches when winning the first set than any other player in London.

Here are the records while winning the first set and losing the first set for all eight of the London participants. Note that Djokovic just happens to be the only player with a winning record after dropping the first set. It doesn’t happen often, but when he has dropped the opener, he’s won five of eight.
