Second Serve

By Nick Georgandis

Now that Milos Raonic is safely into his 20s, Eugenie Bouchard is arguably the most famous Canadian teenager out there, given her rise from 147th to 36th in the WTA rankings this year.

Scratch that, there's still one Canuck with a bit more star power, and Bouchard herself empathizes with him, and wants to meet him.

"(If I could meet one celebrity) I'm going to go with Justin Bieber," Bouchard said after reaching the quarterfinals in Tokyo a week ago. I respect him because he came from nothing and he became this mega-superstar and he gets so much hate, but I like some of his songs."

Born just six days apart, Bouchard and Bieber have taken their respective industries by storm in completely different ways. Bieber was a Youtube sensation and a child star from an early age, while Bouchard has had most of her fame emerge over the past 11 months as she has risen rapidly through the ranks of the WTA elite.

Bouchard identifies with Bieber trying to stay grounded while the world around him spins ever faster.

"I can just imagine how tough it is for him to keep his feet on the ground. Honestly, people who didn't really like him actually were amazed by his movie. And he's Canadian, so I support him."

While it's not Bieber tour money, Bouchard has piled up $369,992 in winnings this year. Not bad for a 19-year-old.
