Juan Martin del Potro took to social media to tell the public that he has decided to skip the European indoor swing in order to ensure that his surgically repaired left wrist is completely fit before he competes on the ATP Tour again.

The 26-year-old former US Open champion last competed in February, when he had to pull out of his round of 32 match with Somdev Devvarman in Dubai due to the injury.

Del Potro underwent the surgery in late March. The Tandil, Argentina native had surgery on his right wrist in 2010, missing eight months before returning and eventually reclaiming a spot in the top five as well as becoming an Olympic bronze medalist.

Del Potro left the following statement on Facebook for his fans:

“Despite the positive recovery of my wrist and the progress in my overall physical condition, I have decided not to take part in the end-of-year European tournaments. I´m currently not at the 100% capacity required to confront this challenges. I intend to take a more patient approach to this preparation phase and focus on a sound 2015 return. Your constant support, good wishes and caring have been and will continue to be of the upmost importance along this journey. I am deeply thankful and I believe that during next year I´ll be able to repay you, doing what I do best.”
