Konta Splits With Coach Joyce

Another new year brings another new coach for Johanna Konta.

The British No. 1 has split with Michael Joyce, her coach of 10 months, The Daily Mail's Mike Dickson reports.

Konta plans on hiring a new coach during the offseason.

It's been a season of struggle for the 27-year-old Brit, who reached a career-high ranking of No. 4 following her run to the 2017 Wimbledon semifinals.

Konta concluded 2017 ranked No. 9, but has plummeted to her current rank of No. 45 after suffering opening-round exits at Roland Garros and the US Open and second-round losses at the Australian Open and Wimbledon.

The aggressive baseliner reached the Nottingham final in June, falling to Ashleigh Barty in three sets. Konta dispensed a 6-1, 6-0 thrashing to Serena Williams, the 23-time Grand Slam champion's worst-ever loss, and beat major champions Jelena Ostapenko and Victoria Azarenka in succession en route to the Rogers Cup round of 16, but she's struggled to put successive wins together in recent months.

It is the third straight year Konta has dismissed her coaching team.

Konta parted company with Wim Fissette, her coach of less than a year, last November. Fissette joined forces with Angelique Kerber, coaching the former No. 1 to her first Wimbledon title in July. Konta concluded the 2016 season splitting with Spanish coach Esteban Carril.

The 45-year-old Joyce, who previously coached Maria Sharapova, worked with Azarenka in 2017.

Joyce bounced back quickly from the split.

The veteran coach is already working with Genie Bouchard on a trial basis, Tennis Life's Stephanie Myles reports.
