Krejcikova and Siniakova Climb to No.1

Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova are the new WTA doubles No.1s. The 22-year-olds climbed to the top of the rankings on Monday after a season that saw them become the first team to win Roland Garros and Wimbledon back-to-back in 15 years.

They are the 14th pair to co-own the WTA’s No.1 ranking and they’ll be competing at this week’s WTA Finals in Singapore.

The tandem was also voted as the WTA Doubles Team of the Year by international tennis writers.

“We’re very excited to be the new WTA World No.1 doubles players,” said Siniakova. “It’s always been our goal to reach No.1 and to finally make it is a great feeling.”

“Winning our first Grand Slams this year was a big accomplishment and now to become No.1 is another dream come true,” said Krejcikova, who was formerly coached by WTA legend Jana Novotna in the last years of her life.
