Lendl, who joined Alexander Zverev's coaching team in August prior to the US Open, is expected to be fine and rejoin the world No. 5 sometime during the upcoming European fall season, depending on his recovery.

"He has wrist surgery. He had to fly back," Zverev told the media in Shanghai. "We didn't stop or anything, so everything is fine.

"He just has some sort of small wrist surgery that he has to do, and then he'll be back in Europe, in London, for sure. And then I have to see where or we have to talk about how his recovery is going and where else he can go."

Asked if his coach's wrist injury was tennis-related, Zverev replied: "No, that's his golf. He's playing too much."
