The International Tennis Integrity Agency announced it received 38 match alerts for suspicious betting during the third quarter of 2021.

The ITIA issued its quarterly report detailing 13 of the 38 match alerts emanated from the ATP Challenger level. A total of four match alerts came from Grand Slams—two at Wimbledon and two at the US Open.



"It is important to note that an alert on its own is not evidence of match fixing," the ITIA said. "Unusual betting patterns can occur for many reasons other than match fixing—for example incorrect odds-setting; well-informed betting; player fitness, fatigue or form; playing conditions and personal circumstances."

Corruption has commonly been more prevalent at the lower levels of the pro circuit because prize money is much lower and there are typically more tournaments.

"Care should be taken in drawing any conclusions about prevailing corruption across the tennis ‘pyramid’ as there are many more matches at the bottom than at the top," the ITIA announced. "More complete analysis will be published in our annual report.

"Where analysis of a match alert does suggest corrupt activity, the ITIA conducts a full, confidential investigation."
