Roger Federer was pleased with his performance this weekend and thrilled that the Swiss Davis Cup team was able to qualify for next year’s World Group, but don’t expect the 34-year-old to embark on another Davis Cup journey in 2016.

Federer, who led the Swiss to Davis Cup glory in that season, has already played enough Davis Cup ties in this Olympic cycle to qualify for the Olympics, so there’s a chance that the Swiss maestro may not even take part in next year’s competition, given the additional demands that the Olympics will add to his already busy summertime schedule.

Here is Federer’s response to the question “How hungry are you to win the Davis Cup again or is once enough?"

“Yeah, my idea was never to win it twice,” said Federer. “The idea was always to win it once, and we did that in front of a record crowd. It was a great moment for us all.”

Federer isn’t completely ruling out that he’ll play a tie next season, particularly if the geography of the draw makes travel less challenging, but the likelihood that we’ll see the 34-year-old join forces with Stan Wawrinka to make another spirited run at the crown seems remote to say the least.

"I see this tie in isolation,” Federer said over the weekend, according to Reuters. “Next year is an Olympic year. The summer will be very long and packed with highlights. It's all a question of priorities. I can't play everything and of course if I do play Davis Cup other things have to drop out."

The World No. 2, who improved his record to 41-8 in Davis Cup singles rubbers over the weekend, may elect the skip the whole 2016 Davis Cup season. With Olympics clearly a priority along with the four majors, he may leave the team in the capable hands of Wawrinka and save what’s left in his tank for goals he’s still hungry to achieve.
