David Ferrer and Andy Murray will meet in a high-stakes final at the Erste Bank Open in Vienna after both passed their semifinal tests on Saturday.

Ferrer edged past Philipp Kohlschreiber, 6-3, 2-6, 7-6(3) to reach the final in the day’s second semifinal after Murray had successfully finished off resurgent Serb Vicktor Troicki, 6-4, 6-3.

Murray leads the lifetime head-to-head against Ferrer, 7-6, but Ferrer claimed their most recent meeting in Shanghai in three sets.

Murray has already added 120 points to his race to London total, while Ferrer has added 60. That gives Murray a slim 3785 to 3775 lead in the race. The two will battle it out on Sunday to add another 100 and the winner will emerge with a secure hold on the 8th and final spot for the year-end fiinals in London.

On the strength of their final runs in Vienna, both Murray and Ferrer have already leapfrogged Milos Raonic (3750 points) in the standings. Raonic fell in his opening-round match in Moscow to Ricardis Berankis.

Murray currently holds the 8th place and Ferrer holds the 9th slot, but the two could flip-flop if Ferrer wins the final.

Additionally, Ferrer and Murray are slated to meet in next week’s Valencia Open in Spain.
