Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal announced their withdrawal from next week’s Roger’s Cup, just a day after Andy Murray pulled out of the event. Federer said that he needs more time to recover after a semifinal run at Wimbledon. The Swiss reached the semifinals of all three grass-court events he played this summer, going 10-3 in 13 matches at Stuttgart, Halle and SW19.

Federer is slated to a heavy schedule of singles and doubles at the Olympic Games in Rio, which begins on Saturday August 6. The Swiss won the Gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Games in doubles, and took the Silver Medal at London in singles in 2012.

Nadal, who had to pull out of Roland Garros with a wrist injury, said he has only been practicing for a week and is not quite ready to compete.

“I only started practicing a week ago after my wrist injury and I am not ready to play such an important event,” he said. “I am very much looking forward to playing in Toronto in a couple of years since I have always been treated great in that tournament and have a lot of great Canadian fans.”

The Spaniard, a Gold medal winner at the 2008 Beijing games in men’s singles, also has his sights set on the Rio Games.

Novak Djokovic, Stan Wawrinka, Kei Nishikori and Milos Raonic are slated to be the tournament’s top four seeds, barring any further withdrawals.
