Grigor Dimitrov’s struggles continue. Dan Evans, meanwhile, is on the up. The British No.4 has now won six of his last eight matches after taking out the Bulgarian, 6-4, 6-4, to reach the third round at the Citi Open.

Evans has put together an impressive 2016, reaching four Challenger finals and compiling a 30-14 record.

He saved three of five break points against the No.1-seeded Bulgarian and advances to face either Luckas Lacko or Jack Sock. Evans missed on his first four match points but converted his fifth to even his career record with Dimitrov at one apiece.

Dimitrov drops to 20-16 on the season. He has lost eight out of ten since reaching the Istanbul final in April.

Other winners on Tuesday at Rock Creek Park were fourth-seeded Benoit Paire, eighth-seeded Sam Querrey, eleventh-seeded Alexandr Dolgopolov were other seeds that advanced.
