The Romanian’s 6-7(3), 6-4, 6-3 victory over the American saw 20 breaks of serve from 33 break opportunities. Both players were broken five times in the opening set, won by King in a tiebreaker.

The wild ride continued in sets two and three, but it was Halep who had the edge. The world No. 5 took the middle set then broke critically in the eighth game of the decider for a 5-3 lead.

She served the match out to clinch her berth in the final.

2014 Bucharest champion Halep is into her second final of 2016 and 12th since the beginning of 2014. She owns a 12-8 record in finals for her career.

Halep will face Latvia’s Anastasija Sevastova for the title. The 26-year-old took out Germany’s Laura Siegemund, 6-3, 6-2, in Saturday’s first semifinal.

Seventh-seeded Sevastova is into her second final in as many months. She has not dropped a set all week in Bucharest, which includes wins over the No.2 and No.4 seeds.
