Russia's Karen Khachanov upset Philipp Kohlschreiber at the Generali Open in Austria.

World No. 104 Karen Khachanov of Russia knocked off defending champion Philipp Kohlschreiber at the Generali Open in Kitzbühel to reach the second quarterfinal of his career and first since 2013.

The Moscow native saved seven of ten break points and won 25 of 33 first-serve points against Kohlschreiber. Khachanov jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the opener and managed to hold on despite surrendering two breaks to take it 6-4.

In the second set the Russian broke critically for a 4-3 lead and converted his second match point with a booming inside-out forehand winner.

Khachanov will face sixth-seeded Dusan Lajovic in the quarterfinals. The Serb defeated Mischa Zverev, 6-4, 6-4.

Third-seeded Marcel Granollers was upset by Adam Pavlasek in straight sets while fourth-seeded Paolo Lorenzi and eighth-seeded Jan-Lennard Struff were victorious.
