Great Britain’s Kyle Edmund continued his steady progression at Antwerp, Belgium on Friday by defeating veteran Italian Andreas Seppi to reach his first ATP semifinal.

Playing at a career-high ranking of No.43 in the world, Edmund backed up his upset of No.2-seeded David Ferrer with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Seppi.

Edmund began the season outside of the Top 100.

“The match from yesterday helped me today in terms of playing lots of tennis and lots of tough points,” said Edmund. “I think that helped me today because I came out very focused.”

Edmund will square off with France’s Richard Gasquet on Saturday. The Frenchman eased past Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff, 6-3, 6-2, for his 32nd win of the season earlier on Friday.

“It’s another opportunity, another match at this level for me,” said Edmund, who upset Gasquet in the first round of the U.S. Open this year. “It’s my first year on the tour playing consistent ATP events so every match is good for me—I keep learning and trying to get better.”

The other semifinal will feature Argentina’s Diego Schwartzman and either David Goffin or Marius Copil.

Edmund, 21, has now won 20 matches at the ATP level this season. He entered the season with a 2-13 record in tour-level matches. He has reached for quarterfinals this year and won for matches against the Top 20.
