Kristina Mladenovic capped off a magical first week at Roland Garros with a rousing comeback to defeat American Shelby Rogers, 7-5, 4-6, 8-6. The Frenchwoman, who won her first-round match 9-7 in the third while suffering from a sore back, made it even a tad more dramatic on Friday in Paris.

She reeled off 12 of 13 points during a torrid rally from 5-2 down in the fifth set to knock off one of last year’s quarterfinalists and book her spot in the second week at Roland Garros for the first time in nine career appearances.

Mladenovic’s massive win sets a round of 16 clash with defending champion Garbiñe Muguruza.

In total, Mladenovic stormed back to win 25 of the final 33 points to leave Rogers stunned and the partisan crowd at Court Suzanne Lenglen overjoyed.

"She didn't really miss a ball. I think she elevated her game," Rogers would later say.

Stosur Starting another RG Run?

Aussie Sam Stosur powered into the round of 16 for the sixth time and the second year in a row with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Bethanie Mattek-Sands. The 33-year-old, a semifinalist in Paris last year, needed just 70 minutes to douse the hopes of American qualifier Bethanie Mattek-Sands. Stosur will next face Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko. The 19-year-old powered into the round of 16 at a major for the first time with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Lesia Tsuurenko.
