Andreas Seppi squeezed out a 7-6 (6), 7-6 (5) win over Pierre-Hugues Herbert, while Nick Kyrgios pulled the plug on his season in Moscow.

Daniil Medvedev swept, Andreas Seppi survived and Nick Kyrgios stepped out of the Moscow field today.

Seppi staved off six of nine break points squeezing out a 7-6 (6), 7-6 (5), victory over Pierre-Hugues Herbert.

The 34-year-old Italian raised his Kremlin Cup record to 13-4.

The 2012 Moscow champion will face Filip Krajinovic for a semifinal spot.

The fourth-seeded Krajinovic advanced to his fourth quarterfinal of the season. with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Russian Evgeny Donskoy.  

The 26-year-old Krajinovic cranked 12 aces advancing to his second quarterfinal in his last three tournaments. 

Fifth-seeded Nick Kyrgios withdrew from the tournament and pulled the plug on his season citing his chronic elbow injury.

"Sorry guys, I won’t be able to play today, this evening, it is obviously very unfortunate, dealing with ongoing elbow injury," Kyrgios said. "It kept me at the start of the season for months or two, and now it started to bother me a little bit this week.

"I am going to choose to wrap up my season and to go home. I will start a recovery and see you in 2019 and hopefully be back in Moscow."

Kyrgios' departure gave his scheduled opponent, Bosnian Mirza Basic, a walkover win into tomorrow's quarterfinal against Moscow native Karen Khachanov, who defeated Lukas Rosol yesterday.

No. 2-seeded Daniil Medvedev broke serve five times and reeled off seven straight games crushing Dusan Lajovic, 6-2, 6-1.

The 52-minute sweep sends the 22-year-old Russian into his third Moscow quarterfinal.

Aiming for his fourth title of the season, Medvedev will meet lucky loser Ricardas Berankis, the 2017 runner-up, for a place in the final four.
