Last week a doubles title, this week singles.

American Sofia Kenin racked up her first WTA singles title at the Hobart International on Saturday, defeating Slovakia’s Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, 6-3, 6-0 in 71 minutes.

Kenin streaked through the final nine games of the match to complete a run that saw her begin by knocking off top-seeded Carolina Garcia and defeat three seeded players (also No.7 Kirsten Flipkens and No.5 Alize Cornet) in total.

“It might have looked easy, but every game was close and I knew I had to play well,” Kenin said after the match.

Kenin will rise to a career-high ranking of 37 as a result of her title.

She will face Russia’s Veronika Kudermetova in first-round action at the Australian Open.
