Latvian Anastasija Sevastova reached her eighth career final on Saturday by defeating Anastasia Potapova 6-4 6-2, but this one was as special as they come for the 29-year-old.
“It’s amazing playing here, amazing venue, amazing tournament,” Sevastova said after defeating Potapova.
When asked on court if this was the biggest of her eight career finals Sevastova replied: “It’s the most special one, for sure.”
Sevastova had to work hard to defeat the talented 18-year-old Russian. She had a break lead in the first but could not serve it out on her first try. She served out the opener from 5-4 and in the second set broke again for 3-2 and reeled off the final four games of the match.
Sevastova will face Polish qualifier Katarzyna Kawa in the final. The World No.194 took out American Bernarda Pera 6-2 6-3 to reach her first career final.
