Naomi Osaka will play Cincinnati and the US Open, according to correspondence between her agency and Reuters.
The 2018 US Open champion was correctly reported as having not signed up for the Western and Southern Open on Wednesday, but Tennis Now has learned that the World No.10 will take a wild card from Cincinnati and does intend to compete at the 2020 US Open.
It isn’t known why Osaka failed to sign up for Cincinnati prior to the deadline for player entry.
Her participation bolsters a Western and Southern Open field that now includes six Top 10 players including Serena Williams.
Four other players were handed wild cards to Cincinnati on Thurdsday. The are: Venus Williams, Sloane Stephens, Kim Clijsters and Caty McNally.
Osaka reached the quarterfinals at Cincinnati last year before retiring against American Sofia Kenin.
