Novak Djokovic and Nikola Cacic claimed the doubles point to send Serbia through the Davis Cup semifinals.

Novak Djokovic’s 2021 season has been defined by quests, since he began his year with a record ninth Australian Open title. Today in Madrid, as most of the tennis world enjoyed its off-season vacation, 20-time major champion Djokovic continued his final quest of the year by leading Serbia to a 2-1 victory over Kazakhstan in the Davis Cup quarterfinals.

Djokovic defeated Alexander Bublik 6-3, 6-4 in the second singles rubber before pairing with Nikola Cacic to defeat Andrey Golubev and Aleksandr Nedovyesov 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 to send Serbia to the final, where they will square off with Croatia for a spot in the final on Friday

Mikhail Kukushkin had given Kazakhstan hope with a dramatic 7-6(5), 4-6, 7-6(11) victory over Miomir Kecmanovic in the first rubber, but an inspired Djokovic had all the answers for Team Serbia in rubbers two and three.

Serbia is bidding for its second Davis Cup title, and first since 2010.

One more quarterfinal is left to be played – Russia will face Sweden on Thursday, with the winner to face Germany in the semifinals.
