As we close the books on the Grand Slam season let’s have a look at some of the significant numbers from the 2021 US Open.

Tennis Express

1 Number of qualifiers to win a Grand Slam title in tennis history. That would be Emma Raducanu, the World No.150 who won all 20 sets she played through qualifying. No qualifier - male or female - had ever been past the semis at a Slam prior to this year's US Open.

2 Raducanu wins the US Open on her second main draw appearance at a major, which shatters the previous record of least Grand Slam main draws played before winning a maiden major by two. Bianca Andreescu and Monica Seles each won their maiden major title in their fourth Slam.

3 Number of major finals Daniil Medvedev needed to win his first major title. The Russian defeats Novak Djokovic, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 to improve to 1-2 lifetime against Djokovic at the majors.

4 Consecutive three-set wins won by Leylah Fernandez to reach the final, all against top tier talents. The Canadian defeated Naomi Osaka, Angelique Kerber, Elina Svitolina and Aryna Sabelenka before falling in the final to Raducanu.

5 Number of titles it takes to win a Golden Slam. Both Diede de Groot and Dylan Alcott managed the feat on Sunday with their US Open titles.

6 Number of match points saved by Elise Mertens in her first-round win over Rebecca Peterson. The Belgian and the Swede tied for the longest US Open women’s singles match at 3:50.

7 American Desirae Krawczyk became the seventh player to win three mixed doubles titles in a single Grand Slam season. She took the mixed doubles title with Joe Salisbury, and became the first player to win three consecutive mixed doubles titles since 2006.

8 Raducanu’s appearance in the final marked the 8th time a British woman played a Grand Slam final.

9 Fernandez and Raducanu played the ninth all-teen Grand Slam final in Open Era history, and the first since 1999.

10 Bianca Andreescu had her 10-match winning streak at the US Open snapped by Maria Sakkari in the round of 16. The match finished at 2:13 A.M., which is the latest ever finish of a US Open women’s singles match.

11 Sam Stosur and Zhang Shuai stretched their winning streak to 11 and won the US Open doubles title, defeating Coco Gauff and Caty McNally in the finals.

12 Djokovic improved to 12-0 in US Open quarterfinals with his victory over Matteo Berrettini.

16 Alexander Zverev had his 16 match winning streak snapped in the semifinals by Novak Djokovic in New York.

17 It was 17 years ago that a junior player last took home the singles and doubles title. Robin Montgomery achieved it this year.

20 Djokovic remains tied with Nadal and Federer on the all-time Grand Slam titles list with 20.

23 Raducanu rises from 150 to a career-high 23 in the WTA rankings as a result of her title run.

50 The Brit dropped just 50 games in 10 matches at the US Open, an average of 5 per match.

82 Number of players who have faced Djokovic more than once, when the Serb has been ranked No.1. Of those 82, Medvedev is the only player (4-2) with a winning record.

129 Fastest recorded serve in US Open women’s singles history, struck by American Alycia Parks in round one.

1988 For the first time in 33 years, the men’s and women’s singles draws each featured an 18-year-old in the quarterfinals at the US Open – Carlos Alcaraz and Raducanu.

1999 The last all teenage final at a Grand Slam, before Saturday. It happened in 1999 when Serena Williams defeated Martina Hingis for her first major title.

3.4 million ESPN’s coverage of the US Open peaked at 3.4 million in Saturday’s final. The Raducanu v Fernandez match was the most-watched final since ESPN took over as the exclusive rights holder in the US in 2015.

189,942: Number of signature Honey Deuce drinks were sold throughout the two weeks of the main draw.
