After a season full of remarkable accomplishments, including reaching her first Grand Slam quarterfinal and breaking the all-time record for most consecutive Grand Slam main draws played by a woman, Alizé Cornet has reached her first final of 2022 (15th overall).

It just keeps getting better for the 32-year-old Frenchwoman, who defeated Russian’s Veronika Kudermetova, 6-4, 6-3 to set a clash for the Jasmin Open title with Elise Mertens of Belgium.

Mertens also reached her first final of 2022, thanks to a 6-4, 6-0 takedown of American Claire Liu.

Cornet, who has notched wins over Laura Pigossi, Harriet Dart, Tamara Zidansek, and Kudermetova, has yet to drop a set at the Monastir Open – she will bid for her first title since 2018 on Sunday against Mertens.

Kudermetova, who is still in the hunt for a spot in the WTA Finals field, committed an uncharacteristic 50 unforced errors against just 20 winners in the contest against the 37th-ranked Nicoise.

Mertens and Cornet have split their previous four meetings, with Mertens taking their lone 2022 encounter in three sets in St. Petersburg

Cornet is bidding for her seventh WTA title, as is Mertens.
