Stefanos Tsitsipas is two wins from claiming his first title of 2023 after rallying from a set down to defeat surging Chilean Nicolas Jarry in Los Cabos, 6-7(6), 7-6(4), 6-2.
The Greek blew three set points in the first set tiebreak (from 6-3 up) but held his nerve to win a close second set before pulling away from the World No.28. He improves to 2-1 against Jarry in 2023 - and 2-2 lifetime.
Fifth-ranked and top-seeded Tsitsipas will face either Borna Coric or Ilya Ivashka in the semifinals on Friday at Los Cabos.
The 24-year-old Greek, who improved to 11-1 against players ranked outside of the Top-20 in 2023, is bidding for his tenth career title.
De Minaur Perfect Against Paul
In other quarterfinal action on Thursday at the Mexican resort town, Alex de Minaur improved to 5-0 lifetime against American Tommy Paul by notching a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 win over the 14th-ranked American. It’s the second time “the Demon” has taken out Paul on Mexican soil this year. He defeated Paul in a gruling Acapulco final in March, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.
De Minaur, ranked 19 and seeded fifth, will face Germany’s Dominik Koepfer in the semis. Keopfer took out American Alex Kovacevic 6-4, 7-5 in Thursday’s first quarterfinal at Los Cabos.
The Aussie is now 8-0 on Mexican soil this season.
