Rain wreaked havoc on Friday and the first half of Saturday at the Miami Open, but the weather could not slow the roll of the tournament’s top three seeds.

Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev all moved through in straight sets in Miami, with relative ease.

Sinner got things going first as he waltzed past his compatriot Andre Vavassori 6-3, 6-4, the No.2 seed barely looking bothered as set up a third-round clash with Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands.

"I know him as a person, but not as a player, so I had to be really careful," Sinner said of his win. "He's a big server, covering the net amazingly good."

22-year-old Sinner, who had his 19-match winning streak snapped at Indian Wells by his rival Alcaraz, improved to 17-1 on the season and 14-3 lifetime at Miami.

"I think there's a lot of difference between here and Indian Wells," he said. "Here maybe the court suits me a little bit better, it's not as bouncy."

Medvedev, a potential semifinal opponent for Sinner, was next to go through, the 2023 champion winning his sixth consecutive Miami match on Grandstand, 6-4, 6-2, and setting a third-round match with Cameron Norrie.

Last but not least, Alcaraz put on a breathtaking display in the night session as he raced past birthday boy Roberto Carballes Baena, 6-2, 6-1 for his seventh consecutive victory. Fresh off his 13th career title at Indian Wells last week, Alcaraz is bidding for the Sunshine Double in Miami, which he likes to call the “Double Sun.”

Alcaraz, who fired a ridiculous 107 MPH winner and connected on several highlight reel worthy points against Carballes Baena, will face either Gael Monfils or Jordan Thompson in the third round.

It was a jam-packed schedule on Saturday at Miami, and Sunday will be no different, as the tournament tries to get back on schedule after a day and a half of rain delays.
