Novak Djokovic made short work of American Sam Querrey, breaking early and often en route to a straight-sets victory.

Novak Djokovic reached the fourth round at the US Open for the 8th year in a row with a 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 thrashing of Sam Querrey that improves the 2011 US Open Champion’s record at Flushing Meadows to 48-8 lifetime.

“This is where I want to play my best tennis,” said Djokovic, who hit 25 winners and broke serve seven times to dismiss the tall, rangy American in one hour and 25 minutes.

This year’s Wimbledon champion was pleased with his performance in the first week in New York. In three matches he has dropped only 18 games and did not surrender a set. “[My game] is peaking at the right time, at the right tournament,” he told reporters. “The upside of me losing early in Cincinnati is that I had more time to prepare for US Open, last Grand Slam of the year. Over the years I played some of my best tennis on these courts.”

Sam Querrey expressed a hopelessness about playing the best returner in tennis, even in front of his home crowd:

Djokovic has reached the finals of the US Open for the last four years, and he is bidding to reach the semifinals for the 8th consecutive time, which would tie him with Roger Federer and Ivan Lendl for the Open Era record.

The world No. 1 will square off against either Philipp Kohlschreiber or John Isner in the round of 16. He’s a combined 9-3 against the pair (5-2 vs. Isner and 4-1 vs. Kohlschreiber).
