Stanislas Wawrinka's phone was likely blowing up with congratulatory messages after he won the Australian Open title on Sunday. But his first call came from none other than his Swiss compatriot Roger Federer.

"He texted me and then called me. He was quite crazy for me, like really, really happy,'' Wawrinka said Monday as he made the media rounds to celebrate the win. "He has been in that situation so many times, he has been the champion so many times and knows the feeling. He's my supporter, he's always there. I just said when I have time I would call him back. It's still all quite crazy.''

Wawrinka defeated top seed Rafael Nadal in four sets to claim his first ever Grand Slam singles title. The victory also propelled Wawrinka to a career high No. 3 world ranking on Monday.

Despite still trying to come to terms with his achievement, Wawrinka admitted he believes his win will inspire others on the ATP Tour.

"For sure, some players will realize now it's possible to win a Grand Slam. I think already the top 15 players, we were all thinking that the four major guys, who are really amazing players, we have more chance to beat them."

Wawrinka is next scheduled to compete at the upcoming Davis Cup tie between Serbia and Switzerland this weekend. But for now, Wawrinka plans to enjoy his breakthrough.

"For me, now I have my Grand Slam trophy and no one can take it back. It still feels like a dream. It's good to wake up with that trophy."
