David Ferrer Miami 2013 (March 29th, 2013) -- David Ferrer finds himself back into the finals of a Masters 1000 event after surviving a touch and go semifinal at the Sony Open Tennis event in Miami.

The veteran Ferrer took on someone older than him in soon to be 35-year-old Tommy Haas who knocked off top seed Novak Djokovic earlier in the week en route to reaching the semifinals. For both men, it was a golden opportunity to reach a big final and the moment proved a burden and an inspiration in various moments throughout the closely contested encounter.

Haas earned the first break of serve midway through the first set and used it to propel himself to a 5-2 lead. Haas couldn't serve it out on his first attempt but got the job done on his next chance to close out the 6-4 first set.

But it was Ferrer who proved steadier in the second set while Haas's form dipped just enough to allow the Spaniard back in the match. Ferrer tested Haas in several service games and was able to break when Haas committed a wild forehand error to give Ferrer a 4-2 lead.

Ferrer then surged ahead to close out the second set 6-2 but that didn't mean the battle was over.

Haas, now wearing what some consider his lucky lavender shirt, broke Ferrer to open the deciding set. With both men feeling the pressure of reaching the final, Haas looked poised to close it out when he took a 3-1 lead off of a well-place kick serve.

But Haas let go off the lead thanks to another wild forehand and soon it was 3-all. As the unforced errors began to mount for the veteran German, it was Ferrer who raised his level as he surged ahead to a 5-3 advantage.

Ferrer soon served out the match to love and took it on his first match point when Haas netted on the final shot. Ferrer raised his arms in triumph as he celebrated the 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 win.

Despite being disappointed with the loss, Haas chose to look at the positives of his breakthrough week that will put him back into the top 15 on Monday.

"Those moments are, that's what you dream about when you're a young kid, you know, "said Haas. "You have these imaginations playing at the big tournaments and going out there and competing hard. You know, for me still to be doing that at a high level and, you know, still at this time of my career, celebrating some of my biggest wins, you know, even like beating Novak here five nights ago or whatever, it's fantastic."

For Ferrer, he is happy to play either Richard Gasquet or Andy Murray in the finals.

"I am in the final. I am very happy for that. I will try to do my best for to win Sunday. It's going to be very difficult, no? I think for to win one Masters 1000 I need to play my best tennis, because I will play against Richard Gasquet or Andy Murray. Both players, they are one of the ‑‑ they are very good players."
