World number 6,
Francesca Schiavone was beaten by the number 1 women’s player in the world, Caroline Wozniacki, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. Schiavone was able to make some divisive lobs and had a consistent serve, but Wozniacki, who seemed tired and weak for much of the match, came out strong in the second and third sets to bring take home a win.

After the first set, the 20 year-old Dane called for her trainer while Schiavone relaxed courtside. Wozniacki began the second round well and was able to hold off the hungry Italian, taking 5 straight points to win the second set. This momentum bled over into the third set, where the hot Wozniacki was able to power past the tired Schiavone, who seemed to have exhausted all of her energy early in the match.

It certainly brings about the activities of Wozniacki off the court and how they have affected her on-court efforts. With fake press conferences, kangaroos and cricket matches, how long would it take her to mentally and physically get forward in her matches?

In doubles, the number 1-ranked doubles team of Flavia Pennetta and Gisela Dulko beat out Natalie Grandin and Vladimira Uhlirova, 6-0, 6-3, sending the unranked team home and moving on the semi-finals. 12-ranked team of Victoria Azarenka and Maria Kirilenko took on the Taiwanese duo of Chia-Jung Chuang and Su-Wei Hsieh, beating them 5-7, 6-3, 6-2. They will now take on Kveta Peschke and Katarina Srebotnik.
