It has been a long time coming for the former Roland Garros champion, but Francesca Schiavone has reached her first semifinal of the season at the Baku Cup in Azerbaijan.

Gstaad: Haas Serves Up Revenge on Youzhny

The 34-year-old Milan native notched a deciding-set bagel against France’s Kristina Mladenovic to exact a bit of revenge for her quarterfinal loss suffered at the hands of the Frenchwoman in Istanbul last week, 6-3, 4-6, 6-0.

The back-to-back quarterfinals are Schiavone’s first appearances in the last eight of tour-level draws this season.

2nd-seeded Elina Svitolina, who swept past France’s Pauline Parmentier will be Schiavone’s semifinal opponent. The 19-year-old from the Ukraine is into her second semifinal of the season and her first on a hard court.

The other semifinal in Baku will feature fifth-seeded Bojana Jovanovski of Serbia, who defeated first-time WTA quarterfinalist Misa Eguchi of Japan, and Stefanie Voegele of Switzerland, who defeated Shahar Peer in three sets.
