Nick Kyrgios Wimbledon 2014

Day 8 was a bizarre, inspiring, controversial ball of goodness that bounced its way into our hearts. We recap the madness in the #MediaMash.

It may not have been as wacky as last year’s Wimblegeddon, but Day 8 was certainly the weirdest of this year’s Championships. Bizarre in some ways, shocking in others, it was one to remember. The #MediaMash celebrates one of the best tennis days of the year by boxing it all up and presenting it to you:

Roger Federer’s focus was spot-on during his straight-sets takedown of Tommy Robredo today, and he needed every ounce of that laser-like focus to avoid laughing at this impromptu wedding proposal. Seriously, dude? You do know that the maestro is married, right?

Leave it to a 19-year-old to tweet something like this after shocking the tennis world. More on Nick Kyrgios and his remarkable upset of Rafael Nadal throughout the mash.

Is it just us or does it look like Mr. Grant may have had a few too many Pimms cups before taking his seat?

Aw, how cute. Roger freaking out about the World Cup…

Did we mention it was a strange Day 8 at Wimbledon? We weren’t lying… Serena Williams took the court in a half daze for her doubles match, and after wobbling through the warmups (where she reportedly could barely make contact with the ball), she needed a 14-minute visit from the doctors before determining she was fit to play.

Apparently, she wasn’t. After four of the strangest, most un-Serena like double-faults ever, the sisters defaulted. It was later reported Serena was suffering from a viral illness.

The implosion in the women’s singles draw continued as Angelique Kerber FINALLY got past a headstrong Maria Sharapova on her seventh match point (sixth in the final game). Now there is only one top five seed left in the draw (Halep).

Nick Kyrgios becomes the first player outside of the top 100 to knock off a world No. 1 since 1992. We’d say that’s good enough reason to jump for joy.

First Kyrgios saves NINE match points in the second round to defeat Richard Gasquet. Now he upsets Nadal in four sets on Centre Court. What’s next for this phenom?

At last check, 38.5k and C-O-U-N-T-I-N-G!!!

Feliciano Lopez was in attendance to watch Caroline Wozniacki during week one. On Day 8 Wozniacki returned to favor, watching Feli go down to Stan Wawrinka in straight sets. How long before these two make their mutual affections official? Our bet: the cat will be out of the bag by the U.S. Open.

Sabine Lisicki called a medical timeout while down a break point and serving in the third set of her victory over Yaroslava Shvedova today. Then she came back and won the next three points. ESPN’s Darren Cahill makes a good point here, and he wasn’t the only one crying foul…

Either way you slice it, Lisicki gets another emotional victory at Wimbledon. With the draw cracked wide open, she has a realistic chance to get back to the final and make amends for her absolute dud of a match against Bartoli last year. Will she? Can She? Stay tuned, amigos…

Are you implying they are on the double-decker or the limo? Either way, funny!

One of our fave-fave-favorite things about Wimbledon. The shifting of the shadows on Centre Court.

Last but not least: What do you say we all drink a pilsner to Petra and Lucie and the Czech women in general? See you on Day 9!!!!

Bonus picture: Cue the Debussy, Roger’s volley technique is classical…
