(February 25, 2012) – Agnieszka Radwanska scooped up her eighth career WTA title in Dubai today, outlasting German Julia Goerges in a battle of stylistic polar opposites, 7-5, 6-4. The win is Radwanska's first title of 2012, but it marks her fourth WTA Premier title in the last seven months, a period which has seen the Pole rise to a career-high ranking of No. 5.

"I just hope I can play the same tennis in the big events," said Radwanska after the one hour and 44-minute encounter.

Goerges, contesting her fourth career final, played with her trademark sizzle, but her inability to limit errors kept her a touch behind Radwanska, who made only 12 unforced errors to Goerges 54 for the match.

It appeared that Radwanska would win easily after she took a two break lead in the second set, but Goerges responded with some of her best tennis after an on-court meeting with her coach during the changeover at 1-4. From there the world No. 16 picked up her level and hit an impressive series of forehand winners to get to within a game.

But when she had the chance to even the match at 5-all, Goerges' blistering inside-out forehand return missed the sideline by a few inches.

"Her bombs were really dangerous, sometimes I didn't even see the ball," said Radwanska of Goerges' potent forehand, which helped her hit 43 winners to Radwanska's 17 for the match.

After breathing a sigh of relief, the ever opportunistic Radwanska then went on to convert her second match point when Goerges missed a backhand long.

Goerges will rise in the rankings to a career-best No. 16, and the future of the 23-year-old appears to be bright as she possesses one of the most powerful forehands on the women's tour.

"Julia was playing great tennis today, I had to play my best tennis to beat her for sure," added Radwanska after the match.

Radwanska, meanwhile, also has a bright future to look forward to. In spite of her lack of power, her tennis IQ, soft hands and creativity should allow her to remain a fixture in the WTA's top ten for years to come.
