In a tight contest between two of the tour's steeliest veterans, it was Italy's Francesca Schiavone who entered her second semifinal of the year.

Taking on Japan's Kimiko Date-Krumm, who upset Maria Kirilenko earlier in the week, Schiavone dropped the first set but then rallied to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
