Last week at Wimbledon, Williams had to withdraw from the doubles competition after showing up to play in a dazed state for her second-round match with Kristina Barrois and Stefanie Voegele. After seeing doctors during the warmups, Williams elected to pay, but withdrew three games later.

"I decided not to play in Bastad, because I am still not feeling 100 percent,” Williams said. "I want to be in perfect condition to go back on court, but unfortunately it's not the case. I really hope to be able to get back to training from next week.”

She added: "Bastad was my favourite tournament I played in last year, thus I am very disappointed not to come back there. But there is still next, year, so I can't wait to go back there."

Williams won the red clay event in 2013 without dropping a set.

According to L’equipe, Williams had attempted to practice at a facility in Paris, but the rain washed out the session.
