Janko Tipsarevic (April 26th, 2013) -- France's Gilles Simon notched a "sweet sixteen" win at the BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy event in Bucharest.

The three-time champion won his 16th match in a row against Germany's Daniel Brands in today's quarterfinals. Simon converted four out of five break points to win 6-1, 7-5. Simon, who has won the event the last three times he played there in 2007, 2008 and 2012, is now into his third semifinal of the season.

Waiting for him will be Lukas Rosol who continues his surprise run at the event. Rosol, who beat Andreas Seppi earlier in the week, took care of Viktor Troicki 6-1, 6-3 in their quarterfinal.

Rosol, mostly known for upsetting Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon last year, is now into his first ever ATP semifinal of his career.

Tipsarevic Upset in Quarters

After a great start to the year by winning the title in Chennai, current world No. 10 Janko Tipsarevic and his season of late as hit a bit of a snag. That dip continued after he lost a protracted three set battle in his quarterfinal.

The event's top seed faced Spain's Guillermo Garcia-Lopez ranked No. 87 in the world. Garcia-Lopez converted on four out of 16 break point chances to close out the 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win in over two and a half hours.

Next up for the Spaniard is yet another man into his first semi of the year in Florian Mayer of Germany. Mayer ended the hopes of local favorite Victor Hanescu with a 6-3, 7-6(3) win.

Mayer won the title back in 2011.
