Bernard Tomic, the world No. 34, was charged with evading police after he allegedly refused to pull over. Tomic was driving his orange V8 BMW M3, a car that is too high-powered for someone as young as Tomic to be driving according to the law of Australia.

Tomic now faces a maximum penalty of three years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

Tomic was pulled over and fined twice in less than two hours. When authorities attempted to pull Tomic over a third time, he drove to his parent’s house and barricaded himself inside.

His lawyer, Chris Nyst, believes Tomic should be acquitted of all charges. Nyst said that Tomic is allowed to drive the BMW to and from training because he has obtained special permission.

Nyst has appealed to Queensland police commissioner Bob Atkinson to review the situation and said he doubted the matter would go to court, although Tomic is still facing charges of street racing from back in December.
