The tennis twitterverse gave last night's Oscars mixed reviews, while Serena Williams represented tennis in stunning style in person.

The Oscars are like the Super Bowl of movies. A long period of hype and speculation about who is going to win is followed by an event that sometimes does and sometimes doesn't match up to what we had imagined in our minds. But one thing never fails: We have fun watching and airing out our most scathing commentary on Twitter during the event. Our favorite tennis stars are no exception. Here's what some of them had to say about last night's show:

1. Kimmie and Chrissie were diggin' Pink.

While NYT's Ben Rothenberg was a little confused by the performance
2. Meanwhile, Brett Haber of Tennis Channel and James LaRosa, formerly of Tennis Channel, summed up John Travolta's look nicely:

3. There was some sadness about the fact that Leonardo Dicaprio was iced out of the Oscar's again, which was expressed nicely by Matt Fitzgerald and Irina Falconi:

4. Later in the evening, Ben Rothenberg was back again to do a nice analysis of Bette Middler's bra. Solid work by the budding comedian, er, journalist...
Chris Evert was more focussed on the performance and execution than the unmentionables. Good on her for seeing the bright side.
And, sensing the snark, tennis fans came out of the woodwork to support the Beaches star...
5. A few tennis journos took issue with Ellen's hosting skills. Did you?
Ah, but not to worry, Sabine Lisicki, Donna Vekic and Billie Jean King had her back.

6. Serena Williams didn't live-tweet the event but she did show up looking like a star, and that was more than enough for us:

Oh, and she hung out with Snoop Dogg at a pre-party on Saturday, so that was pretty cool, too...

7. In summary, it was a welcome night of snark and movie revelry. Some hated, some loved, but in the end true tennis fans needed a tweet like this one from Vania King to bring us back around to the business at hand:
