Laura Robson Aims For French Open Return

Former U.K. No. 1 Laura Robson is looking to return at next month's French Open after being absent more than a year.

WTA: Maria Sharapova Stuttgart Fall Causes Twitter Stir

Robson, who had wrist surgery over a year ago, last competed on tour at the 2014 Australian Open where she suffered a first round loss to Kirsten Flipkens. Since then she's waited for the right moment to return to pro tennis, including opting not to accept a wildcard into qualifying at the recent Miami Open.

According to BBC.com, Robson's agent Max Eisenbud said that decision not to play wasn't due to any setbacks and that she was getting "closer and closer" to a full comeback.

Because Robson still has a protected ranking, that allowed her to gain direct entry into Roland Garros starting on May 19th. Robson reached a career high ranking of No. 27 in July 2013.

Robson is perhaps best known for defeating Kim Clijsters in the second round of the 2012 US Open in what was the Belgian's final professional match.
