Grigor Dimitrov Loses 70,000 Euro Watch to Thieves in Barcelona

By Chris Oddo | @TheFanChild | Sunday April 16, 2023

Grigor Dimitrov is in the news this Sunday, but not for his tennis, unfortunately...

The 31-year-old, who is participating in next week’s Barcelona Open, had his expensive wristwatch stolen by a thief on a motorcycle, who apparently yanked it off of the Bulgarian’s arm after pulling beside him in traffic.

According to La Vanguardia, the events occurred on Friday night on Avenida de Sarriá in Barcelona. Dimitrov reportedly reached out to adjust his vehicle’s mirror after it had been closed by the motorcyclist. The thieves then tore off his watch, a piece valued at 70,000 euros.

According to reports, Dimitrov stayed calm, choosing to drive to the police station to report the theft rather than chasing after the thieves.

Dimitrov isn’t the first tennis player to have valuable watches stolen. Rafael Nadal has twice had Richard Mille watches stolen from him, one of them valued at 525,000 and the other at 370,000. But he wasn’t approached by thieves in broad daylight.

It is believed that professional thieves traveled to Barcelona to commit the theft, knowing that athletes and well to do professionals are in town for the tournament.
