Murray Wants Long-Term Pairing with Mauresmo

Andy Murray says that he and his recently hired coach Amelie Mauresmo are both committed to a long-term relationship. “We've agreed to work together and I think from both sides we're willing to do what it takes to make it work long term," Murray told the BBC on Sunday.

Murray, who has dropped to No. 9 in the ATP rankings, will face a stiff challenge in his first match at the Rogers Cup in Toronto against up-and-coming Aussie Nick Kyrgios.

He hopes that stability in his coaching team will help him start working his way back to the top of the rankings.

“I sat down with her the day after Wimbledon, we made a plan for the next few months, in the build up to the US Open," Murray told the BBC. “Dani [Valverdu] and Amelie will both be there at the US Open. That's the plan for now, but I plan on working with her for longer than post-US Open, for sure."

Murray, who has already initiated Mauresmo to the fun-loving shenanigans of his team, was knocked out of Wimbledon by Grigor Dimitrov in the quarterfinals. He has yet to reach a final since winning Wimbledon in 2013, and said himself that he needs to make improvements to his game, or risk being left behind by tennis’s new breed of rising stars.

The two-time Grand Slam champion is confident that Mauresmo, 35, is the coach to help guide him back to the elite. And, more important, he knows that the onus is on him to execute the plan that will be put in place.

"I really enjoy working with her, she's helped me a lot," Murray added. "She integrated well with the rest of the team. It's been a good start. Now it's about me producing the results."
